Overview

JOOLA worked closely with world #1 Ben Johns to design the Ben Johns Hyperion CFS 16 Pickleball Paddle. The result is a paddle that gives players excellent access to power and spin on their shots.

The paddle features JOOLA's Carbon Friction Surface (CFS), a technology that uses a more advanced, durable, longer-lasting Carbon-Flex5 textured surface for tapping into raw power as well as generating maximum spin. A Reactive Polypropylene Honeycomb Core brings added consistency to the paddle alongside reduced vibrations for optimal feel on every shot. Feel is further enhanced by the Hyperfoam Edge Wall in which a specialized foam is injected into the perimeter of the paddle. This foam gives the paddle added weight and stability and increases the sweetspot for consistent edge to edge performance. Additionally, the handle has been innovated with CX Forged Handle technology, a carbon-forged handle under the grip that provides extra flex for added power and comfort. This paddle feels stable under pressure and packs a punch on aggressive swings.  Players looking to tap into the latest in paddle innovation and up their offensive play will excel with this new signature Ben Johns paddle in hand!

As with all JOOLA paddles, this paddle features durable Edge Guard Technology, and a Sure Grip that provides a confident grip and sweat absorption.

JUST STARTEDJust started pickleball with starter store-bought paddles. Was great to learn the basics but the move to more serious play led me to an upgraded paddle. No reason specifically for this paddle but it answered all my needs.

HyperionI purchased this paddle as a replacement for another Hyperion. I really like how the paddle plays, but don't like that the separation of the handle appears to be a problem. I've been recently playing with a Perseus, and I might prefer the Perseus to the Hyperion. It's a unibody paddle which should eliminate the separation problem from the Hyperion. Total Pickleball is an excellent company to buy from.

High Price-Poor QualityI’ve played with this paddle for less than a year about two 2 hour sessions a week. I really like the paddle but the handle has separated from the head. From the reviews it appears this is a very common problem for this paddle and it appears they have not corrected the problem.

The Paddle BreaksThe paddle breaks were the handle meet the paddle they replaced it and the 2nd paddle broke in the same place the 1st day using it.

JOOLA Paddle broke within 6 monthsI purchased this JOOLA Paddle in October and live in an area where it snows a lot during the winter. I played about twice a week for these 6 months and the first time I played outside this past week the paddle cracked at the throat area where the grip and paddle surface connect. I was hitting a backhand overhead and this happened and the paddle felt much less sturdy than before. If I had been playing during summer time this paddle would've lasted less than 3 months. If you play several times a week I wouldn't buy this paddle as it simply does not hold up in high level play.

great paddleI really enjoy this paddle my game improved by at least 60% -- the dinks with this paddle are amazing! Although I had this paddle for one a half months and it broke but Total Pickleball provided great help and I was able to get a full refund and I just bought another.

My 2nd Joola BJH CFS16I really love this paddle, unfortunately they are not lasting. My 1st one (I reviewed 2 days after receiving it on 10/22/22) lasted 1 month and then it had only 50% of the grip/spin. I bought another one and after another month it has a crack 1/2 inch from the side edge that runs 2.5 inches, rattles and has also lost a lot of spin. I think the problem is the materials from China. I understand about fair wear and tear but to spend almost $500 on 2 paddles that last a month is crazy.

Good and BadI was super excited for this racquet after deciding to treat myself to a better racquet. Unfortunately, I played less than half of a session with it before the handle started feeling like it was falling off. Sure enough, it started to separate from the paddle itself. Customer service told me that they are seeing issues with the handle on these and that they are trying to fix the issue. Just be aware if you are buying one.

Not for meFor me personally, the paddle is too heavy on the end. My hand speed is slower with this paddle. However, it is excellent while serving. Total Pickleball's service during the purchase was spot on.

BEN 16MM Joola perplexing choiceOk the good parts first. This paddle has a great feel. It's like worn in shoes. Just everything feels right in the hand and when you go to strike or drop the ball. Nice balance of power and touch which spin is easy to generate especially if you have a tennis background. Now for the bad: there's just no quality control at all within Joola. I've now had three of these. The first weighed 8.7, the second 8.4 and the last 7.8 or 7.9 depending on which day I put it on the kitchen scale. The 7.9 paddle as a skin of raw heavy grit sand paper and the 8.4 feels practically smooth compared to it. One is head light and one head heavy. They play like different models not at all like the same paddle. My final take is, I do love the paddle and the customer support there is pretty good so I've just adjusted the paddle or the game depending on which one I've played with—but it's a little concerning. I was gonna say this paddle is only for the folks that probably come from tennis that like a head-heavy feel but then I got the unicorn 7.9 paddle. I'd still bet more are like the others. Sad thing is I'm playing great with this crazy spin light misfit and I'll probably never be able to find another one like again.

A cut above the restSuch a solid paddle when switching from another brand. Spin is the biggest difference. Contoured grip takes a little getting used to. This is my 5th paddle and by far the best, time to save up for another!

Joola and Total PickleballLove the paddle although a bit on the heavy side. Played with ProKennex Pro Flight before so took some getting used to but more control, stability and power with the Joola. As for customer service from Total Pickleball, I will never shop anywhere else! They are so helpful, knowledgeable, responsive, and stand by their products.

The Whole PackageThis paddle is the best I've played by far. The foamed interior frame is extremely effective technology. It increases the stability of the paddle and makes virtually the entire surface a sweet spot. Spin is great, and power is available, but the super power of this paddle is the incredible feel for drop shots. It's not a "touch" paddle per se, nor is it soft, but something on the design allows me to dial into drop shots like no other paddle I've used. Some people have said this paddle is on the heavy side, but I couldn't disagree more. In fact, its weight allows me to swing easily and let the paddle do more of the work to drop balls into the kitchen. It's truly amazing how much more consistent I am at both drop shots and dinks. Possibly the weight could be a bit of an issue with newer players, but for intermediate or advanced it's an asset. I can't recommend this paddle enough!

Solid PaddleThis paddle has solid power and is just about all sweet spot. Did not prefer the grip so I stripped it and put an overgrip directly on the handle frame. Very tactile this way. I now have two.

Amazing pickleball paddle!I have changed my pickleball paddle 4 times, and this one is day and night compared with the other ones! So explosive and responsive, I can control my shots so much better. Very easy to block shots at the net, and easy hitting passing shots done the line. A must-buy for all picklball lovers! Tennis Warehouse is awesome, I got the paddle so quickly after my order!

JoolaI like the paddle. Been playing with a Gamma Hellbender, which I also like. The feel on the Joola is just as good. I like the shape and especially the longer handle. From a tennis background, the Joola feels more like a racquet than a paddle.

Joola CFSI realized when I read a review about the Joola CFS paddle that I had no clue as to what 'a quality' paddle really meant. So I purchased the paddle that the number one player in the world plays with. I have not been disappointed. The Joola CFS plays very consistently and solidly in almost all situations. It does feel heavier than other paddles I have played with and this requires some adjustments. The reward is a paddle that can release power with ground strokes, solid resets when confronted with hard shots and amazingly soft play. My dinking has improved a lot. The sweet spot feels larger than any other paddle I've played with.

Excellent Feel and ResponsivenessThis paddle feels like it has a lot of pop which makes it feel like I need to do less in order to make the ball go where i want it to, especially around the net. If you've used a carbon fiber paddle before this face is similar in regards to spin. I've always felt that a paddle was a tool, but this one feels like a weapon.

Best choiceI love this paddle it's helped my dinking -- very solid feel and I am able to return smashes at the NVZ. It absorbs the quick hard smashes and gives control without loosing any power. It is great for serving with control and spin. I feel the paddle has help me improve by 40%' and has given me added confidence!

This one has it all!First let me preface by saying that I usually don't care at all for ‘signature' products, so resisted trying this paddle. But seeing all the rave reviews & growing ‘hype' I decided to give it a try. Now, after a month of playing with this paddle several times a week, I'm convinced that it has all the best attributes of the better paddles I've tried. Feel, touch, control, & power with a huge sweet spot, Joola has managed to roll all of it up into one paddle. I highly recommend it!

Great paddle, one weaknessFirst off, this paddle is great. It has really nice touch and control, tons of spin, along with loads of power for drives to the baseline and powerful putaways. It overall feels top-notch and I love its feel when striking the ball as well as its thicker grip. My ONLY gripe with it is that it's really head-heavy. It's a pretty heavy paddle in general at 8.4 - 8.6oz, but the head-heavy bias makes it feel even heavier (like it's 10 oz.). I'm coming from a Gearbox GX5, in the 8.5oz variety and the Ben Johns feels substantially heavier. The drawback as it relates to the weight and head-heavy nature is how it slowed down my hands while at the net. I immediately noticed that I was behind on speedups more than usually and losing more hand battles than before, which is usually a strength of mine. After a few weeks of play, I managed to get used to the sluggishness and even overcome it, to an extent, by choking up on the handle while in firefights. After about 3 weeks, I decided that I might need to try something else and looked at the new Gearbox CX11E and CX14E paddles. I immediately regained my hand speed, and the improved spin of these new GB lines means just as much control as the Ben Johns. I did lose some power, especially with the CX14, but I'm finding that lead tape is helping to compensate for that while allowing me to better balance the weight and avoid the overly head-heavy nature of the Ben Johns paddle. At the end of the day, it depends on what you want your paddle to do. If you're looking to pin your opponents back at the baseline on the return of serve, the Ben Johns is amazing. If you're looking to win in 'hand to hand' combat at the net, then I'd look elsewhere. For me, I feel like far more points are won at the net vs with drives, so I'm going back to Gearbox. I will say though, that I think the Ben Johns paddle would be amazing for singles play. If I played singles more, it would definitely be in my bag.

Great PaddleI've been searching for a paddle that was decent at everything (power, control, spin). Usually, from my experience after trying many paddles, there is a tradeoff. However, this paddle does everything very well. It's soft when I need it to be, has the power to put shots away, and also has great spin. Also, my third shot drops are now super consistent and effortless with this paddle. It's expensive but I'd buy it again. Let's hope it's built to last.

Awesome PaddleI have used this paddle for two weeks and I love it! The only thing I did not like was the ridged grip. I just changed it with a flat tennis grip and used a Tourna overgrip on top of that. You guys did a great job!

Combination of Top PaddlesI just got this paddle and played with it and its amazing! It is interesting that when you first look at it, it seems like it has a smaller hitting surface, but when you hold it up to another elongated paddle, it's really the same. I think the rounded corners give it that illusion. I've played with the Electrum E and Engage Pursuit. This paddle is the best of both paddles combined. It has the longer handle of the Pursuit, but the control and spin of the Electrum E. It definitely has more power than the Electrum E, but not so much that it is hard to control. I think they have really found the best balance of control, power, and design from all the top paddles of this design. Highly recommend!

Great paddleI absolutely love this paddle. I have been a Selkirk girl my whole pickleball life, and this paddle gives it all. I love the soft game, so I need a paddle that gives me control with not too much pop. I also like to be able to put the ball away quick when I get that perfect put away and this paddle doesn't weigh my hand down at all. I actually feel like my hands are so much faster. I have 5 paddles in my bag and 3 are Selkirks and one Babolat. This paddle has all 4 of my paddles in one.
