Overview

The Perseus 16mm is designed, carefully engineered and tested by planet Earth’s #1 player Ben Johns along with the good folks at JOOLA, to perform just as well on your rec court as on center court! Power is deployed through the Perseus’ 8.0 oz. average weight, 16.5 inch overall length, with the thicker 16mm Reactive Polymer Core bolstering the size of the sweet spot and also dampens vibration. The Charged Carbon Surface helps reign in that power, provides long lasting spin potential and in combination with the core material, a high degree of paddle comfort as well. A 5.5 in. handle length nicely accommodates one or two hands on the paddle with a 4.25 in. grip size being versatile enough for most hand sizes. The carbon-framed design fortifies the Perseus’ strength and durability resulting in an all-court paddle that will get you from the baseline to the net and to the winner’s podium.

Pretty Solid PaddleI demoed over 12 different paddles (including Selkirk Invikta, Franklin 17mm, Hyperion, Gearbox, ProKennex) and this one had the best feel for me (as much "feel" as a pickleball paddle can provide). It does have nice pop for power as well. I will say, however, it does not seem to have very good longevity. I used my first one for about a month or two and something started rattling in the inside. Total Pickleball was great and gave me a warranty store credit and I ordered another one. The second one after about four times of playing (three practice sessions, one tournament) has started showing signs of wear with small chips coming out of the surface already. Overall, best paddle I have found, although would prefer something with better durability and feel, if it's out there.

Not very happy with this oneI prefer the Tempest over the Perseus. There is a smaller sweet spot and less surface area. I'll use it over the winter and that's that.

Great paddleWhen I first started playing PB, I thought how could there be a difference in paddles. A wooden paddle hitting a plastic ball couldn't matter that much. After playing for over a year now, 5-6 times a week, I began to realize there is definitely a difference. I tried many of my friends paddles and began to realize the difference they made. One day I tried the Jolla Ben Johns Perseus paddle. I was hooked. It was totally different. Every shot felt more solid and the sweet spot was basically the whole paddle. I highly recommend it. You will love it.

Not good for singles playersI have been playing with the Joola Solaire since the beginning of the year. I am a big fan of that paddle but when the cells inside got damaged, I decided to try something new to see if the hype was for real. For the record..I am primarily a singles player. I play singles 4 days/week and double once. Its was good for the doubles. It has a nice soft touch and produces a lot of spin. For playing singles, I am not a fan. It's a little longer than my current paddle but feels a lot heavier, although the official weight according to Joola is negligible. It does produce a good amount of spin but does not have near the power of the Solaire I currently play with. Fortunately for me, Joola did stand behind their product and replaced my Solaire at no cost.

Not my favorite paddleSweet spot is small, even with lead tape. Roll off from sweet spot is dramatic and feel dead on mishits, OK for Ben Johns who almost always hits the sweet spot. Swing weight is good, not too heavy so there is room to customize with lead tape. Liked the Six Zero Dbl Blk Diamond better for my game.

Great paddleI have been increasing my playing time and as a result wanted a paddle that could assist me in playing better. I added the lead weights and found the stability more consistency, sweet spot. I found my daily paddle. Love it.

Changed my GameI have been a diehard Selkirk Paddle user. I have been told by several people that the Selkirk Paddle was too hard for me because I am a former tennis player, and that I didn't have good control with the Selkirk. I have much more control and the top spin I get off that paddle just blows my mind. It has changed my serve. I now have a hook to my serve that I didn't have before and an increase in my serve speed. I have better control of the ball at the kitchen, I love this Paddle so much I'm buying a second one so I wear them out evenly. What can I say Ben Johns you changed my life.
