Overview

Introducing Luxilon's Legacy Dampener. With its dense silcon construction, this dampener provides a very smooth and dampened ride along with a slightly firmer response for more direct ball feedback. Reminiscent of Luxilon’s original Vibra Stopper O dampener that was included with Luxilon strings for many years.

Comments: For years, I've treated dampeners as more or less the same. This one gives a much more muted feel and you can feel the difference. Whereas a typical dampener will make the central stringers stiffer, it's a bit more balanced out with this design. Still getting used to it, but I think I'll increase the tension a little, I play with RPM Blast on my RF97, and see how much I can take without jarring my arm significantly. An acquired taste, with or without.

Comments: Let me just say, I wanted to love this dampener greatly, as it looks very much my favorite so far -- the Tourna Pete Sampras model in black. I acquired 6 of these puppies through Tennis Warehouse and after giving the unit a second chance today, it very much reiterated why I stopped using it the first place. First, the weight of this unit is significant enough to change the overall balance of your frame. I insert the Luxilon dampener and the next thing I know is my racket is now head heavy. Less problematic from the baseline, but at the net, all sorts of issues. Racquet difficult to maneuver in rapid volley exchanges. Worse still, the dampener somehow manages to destabilize the head of the racquet on volleys. As for the crew that complains that the Sampras dampener flies off the frame occasionally too often, I would only suggest that you should work on your skills. If you are hitting the ball in the sweet spot of your racquet more often than not, there is no way the dampener will fly off. I've been using the Sampras dampener for the last ten years and maybe once it separated from my racquet.

Comments: Stiffer and larger compared to the Sampras O shaped dampener. It will also stay much longer on your racquet compared to the Sampras. Since it's larger in shape, it kind of deformed/curved my string when I installed this, unlike the Sampras where it looks nice up close since strings are straight. However, this dampener is great since it won't fly off of the racquet that often compared to the Sampras dampener. I'll still choose the Sampras dampener overall.

Comments: These are my go-to dampeners. Tried the Tourna Sampras black Os and these worked much better for me. Harder material, stay on my racquet better, and they work and stay in place when I lose string tension. Use them in my 2016 Pro Staff 97LS.

Comments: I've owned these dampeners back in the day when you could get them out of packs of Luxilon. The ones from back then had writing on them, and these do not. However, I still feel like I get the same muted feel. It's an oversized O dampener from the Sampras O and other O dampeners. I don't know if that helps in the dampening department, but these and the old square Gamma Red Eye dampeners are the best out there!
