Overview

USA Pickleball Approved

Master Athletics introduces the P2-XL pickleball paddle an elongated version of their popular P pickleball paddle. The P2-XL features a rimless design, which maximizes the size of the sweet spot, for true edge-to-edge performance, with a single-piece carbon mold construction, making it nearly indestructible. Adding to this paddle's versatility is the EDGE Technology allowing for easy customization of the P2-XL's weight, balance, and dampening, via a tuning material kit (sold separately). The P2-XL serves up ample power, via its stability inducing 7.9 oz. weight, and 16.75 in. overall length for increased reach, while the 14mm. polypropylene honeycomb insert refines that power with a high degree of comfort. Vibration control is mastered with the Master Athletics 4-Layer Cushion Grip, wrapped around a 5.25 in. handle, which is long enough for playing with one, or two hands on the paddle. A 4 in. grip is standard, and finishes off the utility of the Master Athletics P2-XL, making it one of the most advanced, and customizable paddles available.

Love this paddle!I play tested the following paddles including the Master Athletics P2-XL Pickleball Paddle. 1. Master Athletics P2 XL 2. CRBN 1X Power Series 16mm 3. Selkirk LUXX Control Air Invikta Paddle 4. XSPAK Carbon Fiber Pickleball which is a generic version of the CRBN 1 16mm Pickleball The Master Athletics was the first paddle I saw and I ordered it because I liked the graphics. I later did more research and the CBRN 1X, Selkirk LUXX, and XSPAK all had great reviews. The CBRN 1X is a thermoformed power paddle with a T700 Raw Carbon Fiber hitting face. The Selkirk LUXX is the commercial version of the Selkirk Labs Project 003 that has rave reviews by many pickleball YouTubers and is a control paddle. Similarly the XSPAK is a control paddle. I was about to return the Master Athletics given it had so few reviews and they weren't all that positive, especially compared to the other paddles above. But I decided to try it out for fun. I'm so glad I did. I ending up choosing the Master Athletics. It was an easy decision and to be honest I absolutely love it. My favorite part is its raw power. I'm able to attack balls with so much speed that, in many cases, opponents can't even touch them. Plus, it's elevated every aspect of my game from my serve to my returns to my drives to my spin to my drops. There's nothing I don't like about it. The Master Athletics paddle single handedly elevated my game from a 3.5 to 4.5 rating which was way beyond my expectations. Before using it, I had a $15 Amazon starter paddle with a sweet spot the size of a dime and was 50/50 in club matches. After using the Master Athletics, I've been undefeated and am on a 16 game winning streak. I ordered the tuning kit and have mixed feelings about it. First, it feels like a gimmick since you can place lead tape on almost any pickleball paddle and tune it. Also, the dampener made zero difference to me. Plus, the kit costs $20 which feels like a rip-off compared to lead tape which you can get for $5-10. The worst part, though, is the weighted tape was too wide and didn't even fit the grooves. I had to sand it down which, looking back, was probably a dumb idea since it's likely made of lead. I did cover it with electrical tape though. The racket definitely feels heavier with the weighted tape and my drives and drops are lower and more consistent but the rest of my game is pretty much the same so I'll probably stick with it. That said, I love the paddle with or without the tuning. I wanted to play test the Gearbox Pro as well - specifically the Pro Elongated Power since it sounds like the most powerful legal paddle right now based on the YouTube reviews I've seen. But it was unfortunately sold out. If I'm still gung-ho about pickleball in a couple of months, I may demo it from their site when it's back in stock to see how it compares to the Master Athletics. If you're looking for a new paddle, my advice would be to demo as many rackets as you can that are as varied as you can. I would have never thought the Master Athletics would have been my favorite paddle based on the YouTube reviews I've seen. So, you just never know what paddle will fit your particular playing style. Hope this helps!

Ahead of it's time! Highly recommendedAfter breaking more paddles than I can count I spent a little extra on this paddle and WOW, it's a major upgrade in construction. It even plays better than all the known brands. If you have never heard of Master Athletics take the chance on this paddle it's worth every penny.
