Power and control in a great racketVery lethal and offers spin, power and yet control. I found this one to be more maneuverable than you might think. A bit stiff but as you adjust and hit the sweet spot more, you feel the comfort. The serve is the best shot to hit. Also demoed the Whiteout XTD+ 28 and think I like it better.
Versatile and comfortableFirst thing you notice (or don't) when you pick up the racquet is that the extra inch in length isn't noticeable. Solinco have done an excellent job of crafting a racquet that hides that extra length through the alignment of weight, balance and swingweight. Everything just feels in sync and you don't get that experience, where the extra length was tacked on as an afterthought (which is common with extended racquets). I do also think it works better as a 28 inch compared to the 27.5 version. Performance-wise, I found an excellent balance of power and control. Coming from a Pure Drive +, I did find a little bit less power and spin. Certainly, there isn't that manic power you can get from the Pure Drive family. However, the Solinco (while still having a lot of power) offers a much more controlled response. That was most noticeable for me on volleys and slice backhands - shots where I can have less margin for error and use a bit more touch. With the Pure Drive +, those shots can sail. With the Solinco, they bite into the court. Touch and feel were outstanding, far better than I ever had with the Pure Drive or an Aero Pro. That makes it a great racquet for doubles as you have excellent touch with good put-away power and control. Given that it is a stiff racquet, I was very surprised at how comfortable the Blackout XTD+ is. The response is solid and stable with no twisting in the hand and absolutely no shock to the arm or shoulder (two areas where I have had trouble). That was despite me testing it with Hyper-G, which isn't a soft string. Spin is good but not as plentiful as with the Pure Drive. It is a more controlled response, so everything you get - power, spin - is going to be a bit more controlled than the Pure Drive. However, I found that easily fixed through string and gauge choice. In that regard, I've found the Blackout 300 XTD pairs well with a range of strings. To date, I've played it with Solinco Hyper-G (regular and soft), Tour Bite Soft, Yonex Poly Tour Pro, Poly Tour Spin and Volkl V-Square. Works well with all of them and just comes down to what feel I'm looking for. Overall, I highly recommend the racquet to a wide variety of players.
