Overview

The name of this string has changed from Black Code 4S to 4S. Same string, different name.

With 4S Tecnifibre gives big hitters a durable, low-powered co-poly with MASSIVE spin potential, impressive tension maintenance and great feel (especially for a firm monofilament). Boasting a square profile and sharp edges, this string puts a very tight grip on the ball. Topspin players will be able to hit high-arching, spin-loaded balls that come down sharply and explode off the court. For this string Tecnifibre uses Thermocore Technology, a multi-stage heating technique designed to soften the structure and reduce harsh impact vibrations. This helps explain why our playtesters were so impressed with the comfort level. Players looking for a durable co-poly with phenomenal control and spin-potential should definitely give this one a serious look.

Amazing string...notches earlyThis string is amazing. I wouldn't say it's a "soft" poly, but it's not overly stiff and feels comfortable. Good balance of power and control. Great bite and spin, I thought shaped strings would be a gimmick, but it definitely is a different experience. Unfortunately, I noticed the string notching after 3-5 hours, and I'm not even typically a string breaker or someone who hits with tons of spin. Playing with a 16x19 97, so not the most open string pattern racquet either. I think the early notching probably isn't unusual for a softer, shaped poly though. I think the playability was still pretty good though if you don't let it get in your head, especially since in a full bed, only the mains notched, so they still slide somewhat on the crosses. So if you're someone who restrings their racquets often, definitely give this string a try. If you're looking to leave your strings in for a long time, maybe try thicker gauge or look at rounded, stiffer polys.

Not goodThis string has a soft outer coating that notches almost immediately, like the first 100 balls. You end up with grooves in the strings. Once this happens the spin and the control seems to be adversely affected.

Best blend of POWER, CONTROL and COMFORTI don't know how they've done it but these strings has got everything you need. I've tried many other strings over the years and every time I came back to Tecnifibre Black Code and specially to 4S version which are just amazing. I don't understand some of the reviews which are complaining about the strings grooving into each other which actually is a great thing as, after a couple of hours, the strings interlock into each other and, from that time on, they give you always the same results: same amount of spin, same control and the lose of tension is minimum. Since I started using these strings I've never had to restring my racquets half way through due to different behaviour aver the course of their life. I always use 3 identical racquets with identical strings tension so I am always waiting for the strings to break before replacing them, because it is no problem at all to grab any of my other spare racquets in the middle of the match, as it will behave very similar to the racquet which I've just broke the strings. So really , that is saving some money as well. I am a 5.0 level player, with one handed backhand, playing with a variety of spins and paces which these strings can deliver to me with ease. I use these strings in my YONEX Pro 97 racquets at a tension of 48lbs.

Comments: I strung this in two Pure Aeros, both with Wilson Natural Gut in mains and Tecnifibre 4s in the crosses. One at 52/50 and one at 50/48. I did like how they hit, but it sawed through the strings in less than two hours. The second racquet I put some string savers in the sweet spot, but it still did not last longer than about 3 hours. The square shape saws through the crosses very quickly. I can't afford this as a hybrid, but I will purchase again as a full bed and string it at a lower tension. I am optimistic on this string. I'm a 4.0 player who hits with a decent amount of topspin.

Comments: One of the very best, yet most under-marketed polyester strings. As a former coach still hitting a good, hard ball, but also father of a very strong, UTR 9+ and rising junior girl player, we went on a string testing journey. Testing more expensive and better marketed options as well as other under the ATP tennis at radar options, and this one consistently came clearly on top. Both for me as a Tecnifibre TF40 and Head Pro Tour 2.0 player, and her as a VCORE 100 player. The tension settles and then lasts, great ball grip, as good as any top shaped polyester, pocketing is top notch-just under ALU Power Rough standard, and very good power. I don't understand why this string doesn't become a stand out. It's that good. Thanks Tecnifibre.

Comments: Specwise (TW compare strings tool), it is outstanding. I have bought the whole reel. I play Wilson Pro Staff Counterveil L. So far, I used Babolat Pro Hurricane 16 for mains and 18 for crosses. Was disappointed with the tension loss and, as a result, control loss. I have high hopes that this string will give me power and control. I want to play accurate dropshots again.

Comments: I've been playing with the Black Code 4s for about a year. It's much better than the Original Black Code just because it had way more spin which the big reason why I've been a big fan of Black Code 4s.

Comments: Put Black Code 4S in my Vcore Tour G 310 at 48 lbs and hit with it for over a month. While I don't break polys frequently, multifilaments never last me the full week. Black Code 4S barely notched and still has excellent snap back. Good spin, not as aggressive as a Cyclone set up, but pretty similar to a Y-Tex Quadro Twist. The feel was somewhat muted and different from other polys I've tried in the past. My friend said he enjoyed the playability but not the feel. I personally enjoyed both aspects. It doesn't feel like it'd be a good option for a Pro Staff or Prince Tour racquet, given the muted feel, but would play great in a Pure Aero or Graphene Touch Speed MP for more spin and control. Overall, I would give it another go if I ever return to the tweener racquets.

Comments: I play with the Wilson Pro Staff 97 and I have to say that the Black Code 4S is way better than the Original Black Code. I had the Black Code 4S strung up in a Hybrid with Technifibre Multi Feel at 52/55 lbs and I could really feel the ball sink into the 4 Sharp Edges and shoot it off with loads of spin! Overall an awesome string and I would compare it to the ALU Power just because it has that crisper, livelier feel.

Comments: This string is much better than the Original Black Code.

Comments: Gives a ton of spin while being relatively soft for a poly. Amazing for a couple hours, but tension loss is fast.

Comments: Most uderrated string out there. Great bite and power. It is a spin monster. I enjoy playing tennis with this string. Tension maintenance is above average. Only knock is durability. It snaps earlier than other sided poly strings but I'm OK with that considering how well it plays. Strung a Head Speed Graphene MP at 53 lbs.

Comments: This string is great, but I see why it is less expensive than comparable strings. I run a hybrid and it is literally an inch too short to string a second racquet. The package says 40 feet, but not quite. This is very misleading, and it should be known to all considering this string.
From:Eric, 5/16

Comments: You can feel the sharp edges of the square section and know this is going to delivery a lot of grip on the ball. Surprisingly, it is soft to hit with, the string provides a lot more spin compared to the regular Black Code. I strung it at 56 lbs in a Radical MP, going to try a lower tension.

Comments: Strung this string on a Babolat Pure Drive Roddick GT (2009) at 54 lbs, 17g version. First the good news -- spin potential is very good. As good as the original BlackCode in fact, if not slightly better. Power is decent too and just like almost every other poly, there's very little string movement after each shot. Unfortunately, everything else falls into the bad news. The 4S is one of the worst strings at holding tension. I played with it for just 2 sessions, 2 hours each for a a week and after that the string became a handheld trampoline. There was zero control on the already very powerful Pure Drive which makes shots even worse than they should, there was very little feel, and certainly there was nothing that wanted me to give this string a try ever again especially for the price. I cannot recommend this string just on its spin potential alone as there are many other strings out on the market that provides just as much if not more spin, but doesn't become a trampoline after 4 hours of usage.
