Overview

The Big Hitter Rough has the same excellence as the Big Hitter Blue, except with a little more twist. Its pentagonal profile creates more ball bite and access to spin. We found excellent durability and good tension maintenance. This was engineered for players looking for power and control.

  • Gauge: 16/1.30mm
  • Length: 40ft/12m
  • Composition: Co-polyester (poly-poly ether with aluminum fibers)
  • Color: Blue

Note: Tourna has changed their gauge protocol back to 16/1.30mm & 17/1.25mm for their poly-based strings. The 18 gauge is 1.20mm.

Comments: A very solid polyester for the price. I have been using Big Hitter Silver 16 for a while and use to hit with Luxilon ALU Rough. Big Hitter Silver has better durability and tension maintenance, but Blue Rough certainly has more ball bite. In terms of playability and feel they are very similar. I strung my Pro Staff 97 at 50 pounds, and the ball pocketing was perfect. Don't hesitate to test this string out, it is my new go-to polyester string.

Comments: Simply put, the best poly for the money and the best poly compared to all other poly strings. Control, feel, spin, most importantly controlled power and the confidence to go for your shots with no fear of hitting long, especially passing shots, its awesome.

Comments: Great string for the price. I have two young players using this string. It holds the tension pretty well, one of the softer strings in the market. Negative: they don't last too long. However, this is best string you will find in the market for the price. 9 out of 10. Tension between 50-54 pounds.

Comments: I have tried BHB Rough on a couple of occasions over the past two years, and with the same result -- the string plays well, but breaks prematurely. This variation seems to have the life expectancy of BHB of the same gauge.

Comments: After reading the reviews, I got these instead of ALU Rough and I can't tell the difference. They play the same but are so much more cheaper and also they seem to hold the tension up pretty well past the first week.

Comments: Good string for spin, control and tension stability. I strung my Head Ti-6 six months ago at 55 lbs, and the string is still in good condition. However, I do not recommend those with tennis elbow to use this string, maybe you should opt for Tourna Big Hitter Black 7, 17 gauge.

Comments: Pretty good stuff. Durability is great but it can last anywhere from 2hrs to couple of months depending on how you hit. One of the better co-polys out there. Price is unbeatable if you buy it in a reel. I recomend thisover the silver rough.

Comments: I just played a tournament with this string. The power is good, the control is good, and so is the spin. It felt like when I thought the shot was going out it woulddrop in. These strings do not move around at all. I have 3 Wilson Tour 90's strung at 61 lbs, and I have still been hitting with the same one for about 10 hours and it has little nicks. So, the durability is good for me. I'll probably string it around 59 or 58 next time and try that. This string does not offer a huge amount of feel but for a poly it is sufficient enough. The spin is amazing and I would recommend it for the performance and price.

Comments: This string plays like a dream for the first 2 sets. Unbelievable feel + good power + control. After 2 sets, the feel drops to normal string feel, it is no longer extraordinary, still very much playable. Have played close to 6 sets and still have same power and control and not dead yet and not harsh at all. The string description is true, this helps a lot for fast swings. I take big swings at the ball and I get great control and power out of it. I am playing full bed on Donnay 99 Gold.

Comments: First off I have to say that this string plays great and has a lot of positive qualities. It gives good ball control and excellent spin, but the durability is absolutely horrendous! I think I'm a Future's level 6.0 player even though I probably wont be, and I pop these strings in about 60-80 minutes. That means I'm stringing at least 1-2 racquet! I'm sorry but that's just mediocre. Maybe it'll last for lower level players but for tournament players it is just not worth it.

Comments: This is a very good string. I strung Tourna Poly Big Hitter Blue Rough 16 on mains and with either Big Hitter Blue 17 or Big Hitter Silver Rough 16 on crosses. The rough edge on the Big Hitter Blue Rough is very profound, therefore it is very easy to create top spin. String got plenty of control and power too. After 6 weeks the mains got some light notches, but never moved. Other than that everything is still good.

Comments: Okay first off I have to say that this string plays great and has a lot of positive qualities. It gives good ball control and excellent spin, but the durability is absolutely Horrendous! I'm a Future's level 6.0 player, and I pop these strings in about 60-80 minutes. That means I'm stringing at least 1-2 racquets EVERY DAY! I'm sorry but that's just ridiculous. Maybe it'll last for lower level players but for tournament players it's just not worth it.

Comments: After using the Big Hitter 16 gauge string extensively in hybrid setups with synthetic gut, I thought I would give the rough a try. Overall, it generates very good spin, especially on slice backhand shots; however, it is not as durable as the non-rough version and breaks at higher tensions (i.e. >60 lbs). However, I did find good durability in the 50-60 lb. range. Overall, a great string for the money, especially when compared to Luxilon Alu Power Rough.

Comments: First time using Tourna string. Very nice poly string. Good ball pocketing, good feel and most important, it feels soft. I tried couple poly before, most of them gave me good spin and power but don't have the soft feel like multi strings. But this one is very good and I love serving with this string, the spin is just fantastic. The power and spin of my serve gives me so much confidence to serve harder and w/good control.

Comments: I have used the original Big Hitter 16 gauge as a hybrid with synthetic gut for over a year and it is a very good string. The new rough version of this string is equally good and gives me more backspin on my slices compared with the original. The only problem I have had with this string is with racquets I string for other people that put a lot of topspin on the ball in which case the rough seems to break more quickly compared to the original Big Hitter. However, all things considered, if you want to good poly with excellent spin and bite, then you may want to give the Poly Big Hitter Rough a try.
