Overview

Volkl Psycho combines the spin and control of Volkl Cyclone with the comfort, feel and power of Volkl Power Fiber II. The result is a hybrid with incredible precision and feel. From the baseline this hybrid has enough pop and spin to create a very heavy ball. Players looking for spin-friendly performance of a great co-poly, but who also want the shock absorption and responsiveness of a comfy multifilament are encouraged to try this one.

  • Gauge: Volkl Cyclone 17/1.25mm/Volkl Power Fiber II 17/1.25mm
  • Length: Cyclone 17 = 20 feet/ Power Fiber II 17 = 20 feet
  • Construction Mains: Co-polymer Monofilament
  • Construction Crosses: Multifilament
  • Color: Mains = Black, Crosses = Silver

The best Hybrid combo so far!I'm a 4.0-4.5 player, I have tried many Hybrid strings in the past and for the last 5 years the string of choice was always Luxilon in mains and numerous multifilament strings from different brands as I have experimented to find perfect blend for my game. Then I started to experiment with pre-set hybrids, and after trying Volkl Psycho, I knew I found the gem - perfect feel/touch, power, spin byte, plenty of pop and control! In comparison I have strung Lux/Power Fiber II in hopes to give me similar experience. The setup was not bad, but no where near gave same amount of spin, control and power. The only drawback is durability, you feel feel drop in power after 6 hours of play but never the less, it will settle in and still provide plenty of spin. I'm switching to Volkl Cyclone/Power Fiber II strings. P.S I'm currently using Volkl C10 Pro rackets with 55/55 tension on this Hybrid.

Great pre-packaged hybrid!Just tried this hybrid string from Volkl, (I used the 17 ga) in a Yonex V-core 100 Pro. Really like this set up. My previous favorite hybrid string bed was Volkl Cyclone/VS gut, with the gut in the mains. That string bed always played MUCH nicer and more lively than any full bed of poly I tried. Issues with that set-up was price and longevity, but I dealt with it for the performance. With the Psycho; I put the poly (Cyclone) as the mains, and the multi-filament (Power Fiber) as the crosses. Mains at 58, and crosses at 56. First off, I must say that it's a soft feeling bed, that still has a lot of pop. I don't think it will bother my arm at all (had issues with that in the past which is why I chose the V-Core 100 pro at 62 flex). Spin-wise; it's really good. Might be better than my poly/gut set up. Topspin forehand groundies are staying in better, and slice serve; I can now get short in the box and really spin it out wide. Volleys are really nice too; can get those touch drop volleys really well now (although that is also a strong point of the V-Core 100 Pro). This is my new favorite string, and at a substantial savings over the poly/gut set-up. I am very pleased with it. Don't know how well it's going to hold up, but I'm not too concerned with that, as I'm generally not that hard on strings and the cost is reasonable. I am about a 4.0 player that can hang in with 4.5s when I get the chance.

Volkl Psycho - Nice feel but not durableI use this in my Pro Staff 97 with the poly in the mains at 51 lbs and power fibre in crosses at 53 lbs. I generally prefer the feel of a hybrid compared to full poly particularly at net however I have been going through this combo every few weeks. Its always the power fibre crosses that shred and then snap. I do hit reasonably hard with quite a bit of topspin particularly on my forehand which is usually the offending wing when the breakage occurs however I expected a little more durability based on the review. Generally I break the strings when drilling and hitting out out on groundies as compared to playing dubs at the club which is mostly what I play these days. I am a 51 yr old ex coach and college/tournament player but I certainly don't hit as hard as the younger guys. I am going to try the Power Fibre in the mains to see if that helps with durability as don't really want to go back to a full poly.

Comments: I enjoyed this hybrid a lot in my Prince Classic Graphite 107. I got lots of spin and control from the stringbed. It loses tension quickly, but still continued to play well. It is an awesome price for this hybrid. I enjoyed either string, Cyclone and Power Fiber 2, by itself and the hybrid adds the benefits of both strings. I highly recommend giving the hybrid a try.

Comments: I use this in my Babolat Pure Drive and find it very good string. Strung at 54 lbs, it has great feel and plays very well.

Comments: I love the feel of this string, you can just feel the spin and the nice comfortable crisp feeling. What I don't like is how after 3 hours into playing, I could already see notches on the Power Fiber from the Cyclone rubbing into it. It's not much of an issue, but it might affect durability.

Comments: Got this string and strung it on my limited edition Volkl Classic V1. It is terrible. I strung it at 59/57 lbs almost max tension and the string bed move every 2-3 strokes. Also it eats so much of the tennis ball fuzzs. Have to constantly stop between sets to reconfigure the string bed and clean the fuzz off the string. I would not recommend this string. The material texture between the two strings do not work well together at all. Waste of money!

Comments: I thought this Hybrid combo was OK, however I didn't experience so much of all the love other posters expressed. Control was good, but my play didn't have the greatest comfort, nice feel, or great spin. Adding my own power often resulted in a loss of control or sent balls sailing. As for durability it lasted a few matches over the course of only one month and then my string bed felt a bit dead and stiff. Maybe I set the tension too high at 49/51 lbs. Oh well, since I ordered 3 sets from TW so will give it another try at 47/49 lbs. Thanks!

Comments: I just bought this based on the TW video blog, and I'm very glad that I did. This string grabs the ball very well. I played better today than usual. I am glad I bought this one. I have been using Kirschbaum Pro Line II 18g, but the tension loss has become an issue. I'm glad I got this.

Comments: I like this string! I've been using Head RIP Control 17g for years but wanted a change. I get more spin, especially on serve, as well as great depth and control. It's not bothering my arm at all. I'm a 4.5 level player.

Comments: This was an amazing change. It plays with lots of spin and also offers a little bit of power. However, the strings seem to lose tension fast, and since PowerFiber is a multifilament, Cyclone kind of wears it down. Mine broke in about a month. Still a very great string for a great price.

Comments: I love this string. I changed from RPM Blast and didn't expect to like these as much. I was wrong, I like this string every bit as much as RPM Blast, but it seems to lose tension a bit faster than my RPMs did. If you don't mind restringing a little more often, this is an excellent string with massive amounts of spin, plus it is less than half the price of RPM Blast.
