Overview

Volkl V-Star is one of the most comfortable co-polys available. This string is a great option for the player who wants the spin and durability benefits of a poly-based string but not the high stiffness and off-center shock for which the breed is known. V-Star also has above average power for a control string. All in all this is a great option for the player transitioning into a poly-based monofilament. It's also ideal for all those poly veterans who want to give their tendons a very smooth ride.

Good durable stringGreat string for the price and long lasting. Loses it liveliness after a while but I've never seen a long lasting, relatively soft, inexpensive, great feel string with permanent tension. If someone knows what that is please let me know.

Comments: In the immediately below comment, I sharply criticized this string. In the interest of fairness, I opened the third racquet a couple weeks ago and hit with the Tennis Warehouse strung racquet with 17 gauge grey V-Star string. It was a totally different experience. It had been strung at 52 pounds, supposedly like the others but sat for months -- no doubt losing tension. I've only played with it for 4 or 5 hours, but it is playing as the Tennis Warehouse review indicated at this point. It playing softer than the Volkl Cyclone that I typically use, but with comparable spin. I will update if there are material differences after further play. I normally get 20 hours or so out of the Volkl Cyclone, so perhaps same should hold for this. Three different racquets and three hugely different results in each case. I can't account for such dramatically different results on each stringing. Some of this may have been owing to sitting for this third racquet, and perhaps some was due to difference in who strung the racquet. All were "supposed" to be strung at 52 pounds, but I'm doubting that was the case. Bottom line: This string may indeed be comparable to the Volkl Cyclone, but tough to say just yet.

Comments: I was wondering if it was me, but I see that Chris below had the same experience as I have had with this string. I bought 3 racquets from Tennis Warehouse and had these strings put in based on their reviews. I felt it would be hard to go wrong given the review and that I use Volkl Cyclone (my favorite of the lower costing polys). This V-Star string has poor feel and is much harsher than the others. The spin is moderate, but on the low end of the poly world. In one racquet, I cut out half immediately and put a softer string in the crosses. In the next one, the string absolutely became so lose after 1 hour of play that I cut it out. I have not tried the third yet, but I expect the same. The worst poly I have ever played with and I've played with plenty. I am a 5.0 player and mostly use polys.

Comments: Worst strings ever. No feel. They become so loose after a couple hits, it's not worth it -- sorry Volkl, but these are the cheapest strings you've ever made. Buy the V Pro and spend the extra money. That's why these strings are for sale.

Comments: Just strung up the sticks with these and am liking them so far. Trying the 16g orange in a hybrid with NXT Control. Super soft, nice power, but not out of control. Strung the Blade 98 18x20 at 50 lbs and another at 52 lbs. Only hit with the 50 lbs set up so far and will most likely bump it up to 54 lbs next time. I like the fact that they are round and not shaped like Cyclone, better durability for my multi crosses.
